Winter Festival Tour - (Mount Abu & Rajasthan)

The Winter Festival is a 3-days long event hosted annually in the last week of December in Mount Abu – the only hill station in Princely estate of Rajasthan. Many colorful processions feature in the Winter Festival. One of these parades marks the launch of the Winter Festival. The cavalcade starts from RTDC’s Hotel Shikhar and then proceeds towards Nakki Lake Chowk. The locals earnestly participate in it and the eclectic and riveting performances are put up by the folk artistes of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab and Haryana. All the three days of the Winter Festival, a dazzling display fire works enthrall the viewers.

Other than these cultural programs, water sports also form part of the festivities. Rowing competitions are held on the lake. Cricket matches are organized. A large number of diyas or lamps are floated on the Nakki Lake. This ceremony is known by the name of Deepdaan, the sight of so many lighted lamps floating on the river is indeed a visual delight. Skating Race, Skater's Show, Band Show, Boat Race, Horse Race, Tug of War, Panihari Matka Race and Deepdan add to the excitements of the celebration. In-fact it is the best time to experience the rich culture, history and hospitality of Rajasthan. For two days every year in the month of January, the city of Bikaner comes alive with the celebration of the Camel Festival. Bikaner lies in the desert region and in ancient times when there were no roads & other means of transport no other animal, with the exception of camel, could afford a comfortable foray into its heart. Ellora represents some 300 years of experiments carried out by different faiths with their very different iconography and structural compulsions. The archeological Survey of India has discovered another 28 caves later. The masterpiece of Ellora is the Kailash Temple. It is the world's largest monolithic sculpture, sculpted out of a rock by 7000 laborers over a 150-year period.
